Capacity building sessions of electoral volunteers in preparation of local government elections

In preparation of the local government elections scheduled for later this year, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) is conducting capacity building programs for electoral volunteers.

This capacity building program brings together volunteers who manage elections from polling stations level, polling centers (Cell) and Sectors level with a total of 17,717 participants countrywide.

From this Monday, June 8 to June 12, 2026, this capacity building is taking place at sector level in the Northern province, Western and in Kigali city, and will continue in the Eastern and Southern Provinces from June 15 to 19, 2026.

Participants are being trained on the new organic Law, ‘O. L n° 002/2026.OL of 25/05/2026 governing elections', the organs that will be elected including the Advisory Councils at all decentralized levels, the Executive Committee of the National Women Council, The National Youth Council and The National council of Persons with Disabilities, from the grassroots to the National level.

They are also being trained in the ethics that should characterize volunteers, including fairness, transparency, their responsibilities, and their collaboration with different stakeholders.

Election volunteers in Rwanda are very important because they assist the National Electoral Commission in all electoral activities including organizing and conducting elections
